What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural state of physical and mental relaxation and feels comfortable.

Hypnosis is a way to change the mind and change the quality of thoughts – productive and helpful thoughts instead of unproductive and harmful thoughts.Hypnosis provides a way of directly reaching and influencing the subconscious mind. It can provide amazing results. The subconscious mind can be directed in a way that is beneficial to the hypnotized person, such as giving up smoking. The suggestions given continue to be followed even after the person returns to a normal state of awareness.

Hypnosis is similar to daydreaming or being totally engrossed in a good book or movie. It is a state of focused attention.

Anyone who wants to be hypnotized can be hypnotized. A person in hypnosis is always in control. No one can make a person do anything they do not want  to do.  The use of hypnosis has been accepted by the American Medical Association since 1950. Hypnosis assists a person to lead a happy and healthier life.

Hypnosis for Smoking Cessation

How can hypnosis help in the cessation of smoking?

Many people use various methods to quit smoking- gums, patches, etc. These methods involve using only the conscious mind, in other words using only half the mind. To be successful at stopping this unwanted habit, it is recommended to use the whole mind. Simply put, hypnosis is a vehicle to transport an idea into the subconscious mind where habits are stored. People who smoke are often convinced that they can not quit. They continually re-enforce this idea day after day. They have embedded this into their subconscious mind. They have hypnotized themselves into believing they cannot be successful. It is the job of the hypnotist to de-hypnotize a person and change their thoughts of smoking to thoughts of a non-smoker and then re-enforcing the new thoughts to produce a permanent new thought pattern. Stress reduction techniques are taught to help a person with positive ways of handling stress, cravings, etc.

Weight Control and Hypnosis

Most people know that eating healthy and physical activity can be a way to lose weight and be healthier. All of us can relate to wanting to do something like exercise or eating better, but somehow the efforts fade after a while. The subconscious mind which directs behavior and habits, continues the use of food for emotional comfort. Hypnosis assists change for positive behavior because it has access to the subconscious mind. As the subconscious mind receives positive messages to eat healthier, be active and feel more positive emotionally, the internal barriers are overcome. The desires for unhealthy food decline and the desires for smaller portions of healthy food increase. Setting goals with positive statements help to achieve success, get rid of excess weight and be healthier and happier.

Stress Reduction

The body functions best when all systems are in balance.  Stress changes the body’s response and causes imbalances. Reacting to severe stress, like a lion chasing you, causes the body to produce hormones to help cope with the situation. The “flight or fight” response kicks in to help a person survive by fleeing the danger or being able to defend oneself. Today, we do not often face this kind of stress.  Ongoing, unrelenting stress causes the body to produce these same stress hormones which cause imbalances leading to headaches, overeating, insomnia,  depression, fears. To cope with this, people suppress the problems with drugs, alcohol, smoking, etc.

Hypnosis is in itself a relaxing process. Suggestions are given and stress reducing techniques are taught to help a person react in positive ways to lower stress levels, cope better with the situation, make better decisions and feel better overall.

Reducing and eliminating fears and phobias

Certain situations happen that can cause a person to have fears – fear of heights, flying, needles, dentists, dogs, etc. Sometimes these incidents are known, sometimes they are unknown in the conscious mind. All memories are stored in the subconscious mind. Using hypnosis to communicate with the subconscious mind can access the source of the fears and help reduce the impact they have on a person’s behavior. Ways to reduce stress and release the fears are reinforced in hypnosis.

HypnoBirthing

Through information and the use of techniques and exercises, childbirth can be a  happier, more comfortable, and often a faster process. Fear interferes with the natural process of labor by causing the body to be tense and tight. Through release of fear, women can experience a gentle birth. Positive thinking, relaxation, visualization and physical preparation will lead to a peaceful birth.

In HypnoBirthing Classes, you will learn a stress-free method of birthing. Through self-hypnosis and slow breathing techniques, women learn the art of letting go and opening themselves to the joy of experiencing birth calmly and serenely.  HypnoBirthing helps frame a positive expectation by developing trust in your birthing body. Women learn self-conditioning techniques that will bring the  into a state of relaxation during childbirth. Women and their birth companions are prepared to have the birth they want to have for themselves and their babies, rather than birth directed by someone else. The classes are held for 5 sessions. Preparing for Surgery

Studies have shown that people who listen to positive messages and do relaxation a few weeks before surgery or procedures have less anxiety before and during the event. The person often needs less medication and anesthesia before, during and after the event. People have less problems with pain, nausea, etc. after surgery and recover faster with less complications.

Overcoming infertility

Hypnosis has been helpful in achieving a successful pregnancy.  Through the use of hypnosis, women can balance the body processes and  reduce stress hormones that can interfere with fertility. Many couple have tried various methods to achieve pregnancy. Through that time, stress levels are high and interfere with the natural processes. By focusing on positive messages and stress reduction, the body can be brought back into balance.  Hypnosis can be used before and during procedures to reduce anxiety and discomfort.
